Southern California meat recall…the only problem is how do you recall something that has already been eaten?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recalled 143 million pounds of beef on Sunday. The beef was recalled from Chino-based Westland/Hallmark Meat Company. An undercover video was discovered showing that sick and crippled animals had been pushed into the pens with forklifts.

It has been this is the largest recall in the history of the

U.S. when it comes to beef but how can you recall something that has already been eaten? Much of the meat was given to children for there school lunches out of the cafeterias. In fact over 150 school districts around the

U.S. were reported as still using the beef before the recall. Two major fast food chains In-N-Out burgers and Jack-In-The-Box also used the meat. Both burger chains said they would immediately stop serving the beef in there burgers.

While nothing can obviously be done about what has been consumed the big question that still remains is “Why did this go un-noticed for so long and who was supposed to be watching over this”?
